Jakub Kalousek is a great artist. I am glad to see he's beginning to get some of the attention he deserves. Not that he needs it-he'd create art whether or not we were watching. GO JK!

Definitely a must-see to experience!

On April 9th, 2010 I attended the vernissage and was lucky to get to the SOAP Gallery before the mob got there. That was important as I was able to see the art before the mob of human trees congregated.

"For My Fronds on the Phasebook" is an extremely avant-garde showing and definitely a 21st century, ultra modern presentation. Jakub combined the play on words and abstract concepts to create his show. What makes it extremely interesting is the motion and sounds of moving art. The dual play on concepts makes it fun as in fronds being natural and the shredded paper is the modernization of society returning it to an un-natural state. The concept of the result of the Facebook shreds, which I am not sure Jakub had in mind, resembled grass skirts and the fronds have the same delicate shreds on its edge. Of course, grass skirts are made of palm fronds, too.

While the Facebook rolls were moving into the shredder, a noise about 6 feet to the right along the wall is activated when you walk near the big wooden box. I took that to mean "you either shred your personal information or you saw it!"

The highlight of the show with the music by the Petr Tittlebach trio along with the moving images on the curtains was quite entertaining. The dual concept of the Nutcracker as a sculpture and the human Nutcracker, the artist was quite hysterical. Great play on concepts. It was quite a social atmosphere and amazing that almost 70 people were in the gallery that holds about 30 people.

One wonders what Jakub's capable of if he were to create an Ultra Futuristic presentation. If this were created when the shredder first came out and motion detector's too in the 1980's, it would've been considered Ultra Futuristic for that time period. Jakub, keep thinking and creating!
