Ashcan Magazine is a creative platform for underground and independent artists. As such, we have an open door policy for submissions. Please send queries, comments, proposals, and materials to: submissions@ashcanmagazine.com
Writing Submission Guidelines
These guidelines cover submissions for all writing and prose pieces including but not limited to interviews, articles, editorials, and short stories.
Interviews for musicians, visual and performance artists, or any other artistic individual you find appealing should have a good mix of questions that try to capture the tone and message of your interviewee. There’s no limit on how long or short it can be, but some editing may be required if it takes up too much space. Be sure to include visuals along with the submission–we can’t run pages of pure text! Photos and scans are the best, but send whatever you have, we’ll make it work.
For articles and non-fiction pieces, we’re always interested “strange-but-true” stories focusing on people, places, and events happening in San Francisco and the Bay Area. That’s not to say we won’t look at your piece if it doesn’t directly connect to the Bay Area, but it most definitely helps. Again, photos, scans, flyers, or whatever visuals you have to contribute to the piece are always great additions to any feature.
Editorials are another facet of our publication we’re looking to run. Do you have an opinion on local politics or communities? What about an analytical take on the underground art scene? Whatever the case we’re always interested in hearing about unique circumstances and takes on local, national, and worldwide events.

If you are an illustrator, painter, photographer, graphic designer–whatever–and would like to have your work included in an upcoming feature or spotlighted send us whatever pieces you would like to have looked through, along with a little something about yourself and work.
